Changing Perspective - 2020 Isn't Over!
So... We have not had the best start to this year but that does not mean that we should write-it-off altogether. We have been given an opportunity here and i for one am embracing it. Yes we have been forced to postpone whatever extravagant plans we had planned for the year ahead. Yes life as we know it has changed. It isn't all bad - I mean the world is still being affected by corona as I write this right now but for the majority of us we are safe and well.
Right, how can I tell you that we can still make the most of 2020 with everything that continues to go on? Well... No one ever has the perfect year - at some point this year something was going to happen that was to throw you off balance either way. Because that's how life works things won't be great all the time, at some point things will be bad. Right now we're all going through the bad and when all this is over it will be time for us to rise up and make this year great again. Staying positive in situations like this is the best way to get through, it definitely won't be easy but the road to a great life hardly ever is - just don't give up! Lets accept that Coronavirus is beyond our control - instead of focusing on this disease try to put an end to constantly thinking about it. We should leave that to the professionals, turn off the TV, cut out scrolling on social media and stop absorbing all the negative information.
Negative Self Talk to Positive Self Talk:
Let it start with you, instead of seeing things as a cup half empty, why not change that on its head. Start off by rephrasing things in your mind – find the silver lining in the situation at hand. I.e. I am not working and stuck at home during the lockdown… change it to “I’m so grateful for this opportunity to spend quality time with family and reconnect relationships with friends. It’s hard to keep seeing the cup as empty if you turn it around and think about how lucky you are. Gratitude!
Focus this time on the things that you maybe never had time to do, things that make you smile, things that challenge you, thngs you were may be once passionante about... This is what is going to give you that positive kick! We all need it.
