Social Entreprenuer - Always know your Why...?

Sunday 30th June whilst at a business expo i had an interesting conversation with a woman i have never met before, a minute into this conversation she asks me "why are you doing what you are doing...?" I answered with my well rehearsed social mission "to inspire peoples wellbeing, confidence & happiness through dance" just as i had it printed on the purple t-shirt i was wearing to draw people in to my idea... She looked at me and said "no, i said why are YOU doing what you are doing? You have mentioned people but what about you?"

I couldn't answer initially... In the past two years I have become so preoccupied with the idea of developing SS Dance & Wellbeing and the idea of what i want to do with the organisation that i have lost a little bit of myself. I absolutely love my job and the joy i get from waking up to dance for between 4 - 10 hours every day, it's the best feeling.

However, has being this pasisionate about my vision come at a personal price? In my adult life my time has become very limited, it is currently shared between the running of my business, running of a voluntary dance troupe and teaching part-time at a friends dance academy.

Past the age of 30, i am not entirley sure i have had an active social life - i was known as a party animal in my twenties... Having said this i wouldn't change it in anyway, i like to be busy, i now enjoy spending my evenings in after a long day and as much as i don't see my friends and family as often as i used to i can still keep up with everyone through Whatsapp and social media.

So okay, what is my why??

SS Dance & Wellbeing was created as a result of me being made redundant for the 2nd time in 12 months - Feeling at a loss and let down by a lot of people i decided that i had no choice but to put my life into my own hands, take control and become self-employed. It was a scary step to suddenly decide to work for myself looking back but the best one i have made in a long while, giving me the opportunity to take charge.
